Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr. Justin W. Durham

Justin W. Durham serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Clemson University where he conducts the Clemson University SINGERS and Women’s Chorus and teaches courses in music history, conducting and choral methods.  He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from Louisiana State University, where he studied with Kenneth Fulton, and also holds Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. For seven years Dr. Durham taught middle- and high-school choirs, A.P. Music Theory, and Music Appreciation in Northern Kentucky.

He is active as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor in South Carolina, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee.  Choirs under his direction have been selected to perform at state conventions in Kentucky and South Carolina and have toured throughout the United States, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Italy.  In addition to being an early music editor, he has had articles selected for publication in Teaching Music and Music Educators Journal.  He is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, the College Music Society, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization.

In 2014, Dr. Durham was awarded the Clemson University College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

He lives in Pendleton, SC with his wife Leah and their son, Colin.

Lane is in his 16th year serving as the director of the Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Greenville and has played for the Foothills Chorale from its inception. He also played for the choral group that preceded the Foothills Chorale for many years prior to that.

Prior to retiring from public schools in 2010, Lane spent 35 years as a music educator, having taught both choral and instrumental music in grades 4-12 and produced many award-winning bands and choruses. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Director of Choral Activities at Dorman High School and Secondary Choral Coordinator for Spartanburg District Six. The Dorman Chamber Singers remain one of only a handful of S.C. high school choirs to have been invited through audition to sing in concert at the Southern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, which is comprised of 11 states. He served as Director of Instrumental Activities as well as Director of Choral Activities at Pendleton High School for 19 years. He was named Teacher of the Year at both Pendleton and Dorman High Schools and District Teacher of the Year for Anderson School District Four.

Mr. Moore earned his Associate of Arts degree in piano performance from Anderson College and his Bachelor of Music degree in music composition and theory from the University of Georgia. He is a past State President of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and continues to accompany for the organization.

Lane is married to his wife, Janet, and they have two daughters who are both music teachers. They are also the proud grandparents of granddaughter, Katy, and grandson, Owen.
